Tinubu Directs Nationwide Rice Distribution to Support Nigerians During Ramadan and Lent

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the nationwide distribution of rice to support Nigerians observing the Ramadan and Lent, according to officials of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors.
The initiative was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Hope Uzodinma, who also serves as Director-General of the support group. Uzodinma explained that the directive aims to assist families across the country during the ongoing religious fasting periods observed by Muslims and Christians.
According to him, the programme is intended to promote national unity and provide relief to citizens during a time that holds deep spiritual significance for both faith communities.
“Ramadan and Lent are seasons that remind us of sacrifice, charity and care for one another,” Uzodinma said in the statement. “Through this distribution, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will ensure that families across Nigeria feel the spirit of togetherness during this sacred period.”
He noted that the rice distribution would be coordinated through the organisation’s nationwide grassroots network to ensure the intervention reaches communities across the country.
Reports by Nigerian media outlets, including The Punch and Daily Trust, indicate that the programme will target both Muslim and Christian communities as part of the administration’s efforts to promote inclusivity and social support during major religious observances.
Officials added that the initiative follows a similar intervention carried out during the Christmas season, when rice was distributed to households across parts of the country to ease the burden on families during the festive period.
Supporters of the programme say the distribution reflects the Tinubu administration’s continued emphasis on humanitarian outreach during significant religious and cultural events, particularly as many Nigerians face economic pressures.
The rice distribution is expected to be rolled out through community structures nationwide, with organisers stating that the goal is to ensure that families across Nigeria benefit from the support during the ongoing fasting season.
