2027 Countdown: Tinubu Points Finger at Opposition Over Premature Campaigns

As political tension quietly builds ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accused the opposition of deliberately igniting early campaigns in a bid to distract his administration.

Speaking through aides at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu criticized what he described as “a coordinated attempt by political rivals to heat up the polity far ahead of schedule.” He noted that instead of engaging in constructive contributions, opposition leaders have turned their focus to power tussles, long before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declares campaign season.

“The opposition is restless, but their premature campaigns only show desperation,” a senior presidential source disclosed. “The president remains committed to his Renewed Hope Agenda and will not allow political noise to derail governance.”

Analysts observe that the growing buzz around 2027 has intensified since various political blocs began holding strategy meetings and floating possible alliances. Social media debates, campaign-like rallies, and subtle endorsements have also heightened the impression that the race has unofficially begun.

While Tinubu’s camp insists it is “too early” to drag the nation into another election season, opposition figures argue that early political mobilization is necessary to challenge entrenched power.

With barely two years into Tinubu’s presidency, the unfolding war of words signals a long, heated road to 2027. For Nigerians, the concern remains whether political distractions will overshadow pressing issues such as economic reforms, security, and soc

ial welfare.
