2027: I Have Not Declared For Presidency – Datti Baba-Ahmed

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has refuted claims that he recently announced his intention to run for president.

Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, Baba-Ahmed said his statements had been misinterpreted, emphasizing that no formal declaration had been made. “I never declared to contest the presidency two days ago,” he clarified.

He explained that his recent comments were only meant to reaffirm his commitment to the Labour Party amid ongoing discussions about the party’s direction and its future leadership. While he acknowledged that presidential ambitions could be a possibility in the future, he stressed that no official decision has been taken.

The clarification comes after media reports and social media speculation suggested that Baba-Ahmed was preparing for a presidential bid, sparking widespread debate among supporters and political analysts.

He further explained: “Two days ago, I simply stated that I remain a member of the Labour Party. I did not declare to run for president. Any decision about contesting will follow the INEC timetable and the party’s internal processes.”

Baba-Ahmed also criticized the spread of misinformation on social media, urging journalists to prioritize accuracy. “Social media can sensationalize and distort facts, creating false impressions. Professional media should act as a filter to ensure the public receives correct information,” he said.
