2027: Labour Party Accuses NLC of Collusion with Federal Government to Kill Oppositio

The Labour Party (LP) has alleged that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is conspiring with the Federal Government to discredit its likely 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and weaken the opposition.
This accusation was made by the party’s Directorate on Mobilization and Integration in a statement signed by its Director General, Mr. Marcel Ngogbehei. The statement was a response to a claim made by the NLC National Transition Committee (NTC).
The Labour Party refuted the NLC NTC’s assertion that Julius Abure is no longer the party’s national chairman. The party affirmed that Abure remains the legitimate chairman, as recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the party’s highest decision-making body.
The statement read: “We urge the NLC Transition Committee to cease efforts to undermine our party and our 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Barrister Julius Abure is the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party, as confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and our party’s highest decision-making body.
“We call on the NLC NTC to honor the reconciliation initiative started by His Excellency Peter Obi or pursue legal recourse if they have legitimate grievances. Instead, the NLC NTC appears to be acting as an agent for the government, aiming to dismantle any opposition structures in the country.
“Nigerians are suffering under government policies that have impoverished workers. Rather than following the example of Oshiomhole’s brave leadership and engaging the government to defend the interests of Nigerian workers and citizens, the NLC NTC is entangling itself in political party affairs, attempting to discredit the only true opposition party in the country.
“To those who are observant, the NLC NTC is acting as an intrusive interloper with no legal standing. If they have a case, it would be more responsible to approach the courts instead of engaging in destructive actions that serve the interests of the current government.”
