2027: Opposition Coalition Not Targeting Tinubu Personally – Ex-ADC Chair Ralph Nwosu

Ralph Nwosu, former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has clarified that the emerging opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections is not a direct attack on President Bola Tinubu but rather a response to deepening misgovernance under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Nwosu explained that the alliance, which recently adopted the ADC as its political platform, aims to present Nigerians with a credible alternative to the current administration.
“Our goal is not to go after Tinubu as an individual. The issue lies with how the APC is running the country. There’s growing discontent across the board — not just within political circles, but among ordinary Nigerians,” Nwosu said.
He criticized the APC government for worsening economic hardship and fostering a disconnect between leaders and citizens, noting that Nigeria has slipped into a state of despair and stagnation under its watch.
Nwosu also condemned what he described as a “palliative economy” — where relief programs are promoted as solutions to poverty, yet fail to address its root causes. “While millions struggle daily, political elites continue to live lavishly,” he said.
He pointed to controversial infrastructure projects, particularly the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, as examples of misplaced priorities, questioning the project’s cost-effectiveness and strategic value.
The former ADC chairman emphasized that the coalition’s purpose is rooted in democratic ideals, not political opportunism. “This coalition is about restoring the democratic promise — a system that should serve the people, not frustrate them,” he noted.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic history, Nwosu expressed confidence that revered leaders of the past would have backed the coalition’s mission.
“If MKO Abiola were alive, he would stand with this movement. So would Shehu Musa Yar’Adua. They believed in democracy that uplifts the people,” he said.
