2027: Power Minister Bayo Adelabu Declares Intent to Run for Oyo Governorship

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has officially expressed his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State. Adelabu made this known during strategic meetings with All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and stakeholders from Ogbomoso and Oyo zones on Friday.

Speaking at the residence of APC chieftain Ayoade Adeseun in Ogbomoso, Adelabu explained that the visit was part of his broader consultation tour across the state’s geopolitical zones, as he seeks to return the APC to power in Oyo State.

“I’m here today to formally declare my ambition to run for governor in 2027,” Adelabu said. “I believe I’ve gained enough experience from previous elections to make a strong case for my candidacy. I welcome healthy competition and I’m confident in my ability to emerge victorious.”

Adelabu assured party members that the APC would not impose any candidate during the primaries. He appealed for unity and forgiveness among party loyalists, emphasizing the need to put past grievances aside and focus on reclaiming the governorship seat.

While acknowledging the significance of every region in the state, he specifically highlighted the strategic importance of Ogbomoso in the upcoming election. “Ogbomoso plays a vital role in the political dynamics of this state. I’m glad to see all factions here working as one,” he added.

In addition to seeking support for his governorship bid, Adelabu also encouraged the zone to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, stating, “This is an opportunity for the Yoruba to complete two presidential terms. Tinubu’s return in 2027 will bring more benefits to Nigeria.”

Later in Oyo town, Adelabu reiterated his pledge to run an inclusive government that leaves no community or group behind. “If elected, I’ll ensure that governance is participatory. Everyone will have a voice, and no one will be sidelined,” he promised.

Describing Oyo zone as a second home, Adelabu praised the continued support of his allies and followers in the area. “Oyo holds historical and symbolic significance for the entire state. It deserves to be prioritized and treated with the respect it commands,” he said.

Supporting his statement, both Ayoade Adeseun and Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, son of the late former governor, urged APC members to close ranks and work towards a united front to reclaim power in 2027.
