Gas triggered Lekki makeshift structures’ fire’

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has disclosed that 62 camp gases triggered the fire that destroyed two hectares of makeshift structures in the Ikate Elegushi, Lekki area of Lagos State.
This was disclosed in a statement made available to PUNCH Online by the Head of Public Education, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Amodu Shakiru, on Monday.
FIRST CLASS GISTS Online gathered that a yet-to-be-identified man sustained a serious injury but was immediately treated by the Lagos State ambulance service.
Earlier, FIRST CLASS GISTS reported that several people escaped death on Sunday night when a fire gutted some makeshift structures in the Ikate-Elegushi area of Lekki in Lagos State. The incident involved residential makeshift structures, encompassing approximately an acre of land.
Shakiru added that during combating the fire, 62 camps of gas ignited continuously until the fire was extinguished at around 12:15 hours.
He noted that the Oniru and Lekki Phase II fire stations were present at the scene.
He said, “They called by 22:50 hrs, and we arrived at about 23:00 hrs. The scene of the incident was at Star Road, by Horizon Heights, Ikate-Elegushi, and Lekki Lagos. It is a fire involving residential makeshift structures covering about two acres of land. The fire was confined to the makeshift structures it emanated while saving the adjoining highbrow properties.
However, 62 camp gases were discovered during the course of firefighting that aided the spread of the fire as they kept triggering simultaneously until the fire was put out at about 00:15 hrs. The mop-up exercise concluded at about 03:05 hours for the enumeration of property, which is ongoing. The property destroyed involved makeshift structures and household contents.
“The Oniru and Lekki Phase II Fire Stations were present to put out the fire. The supposed cause was simply negligence. One male adult was injured and was treated by LASAMBUS, and he is in stable condition.
