Obasanjo Calls for New Leadership Generation in Nigeria

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo emphasized the urgent need for Nigeria to cultivate a new cadre of leaders. Speaking at the Africa Methodist Council Heads of Conference Summit and Women’s Movement Leadership Summit in Lagos, Obasanjo highlighted the critical role of leadership in addressing the nation’s issues.

Obasanjo underscored the severe insecurity in Nigeria, describing it as a nation plagued by danger, suffering, and hunger. He stressed that the current leadership must fulfill its responsibilities to foster a better future for Nigerians.

Bode George and Professor Gambo Laraba Abdullahi echoed similar sentiments, with Abdullahi noting that Nigeria’s current situation is dire and complex. He called for leaders to reassess their approach to governance and cited Jesus Christ’s teachings on the inevitability of trouble in the world.

Obasanjo presented a twofold solution: the rise of a new generation of leaders who are moral, transformational, and servant-minded. He argued that such leaders are crucial for re-evaluating and transforming Nigeria.

He pointed out that while Africa is rich in resources, like 70% of the world’s copper, countries like Japan and Singapore thrive despite lacking natural resources. Obasanjo emphasized that without effective leadership, Africa’s resources would remain untapped potential. Therefore, leadership is paramount in creating a hopeful, prosperous, and secure Africa with visionary and knowledgeable leaders.
