EFCC Storms Bachelor’s Eve in Ondo, Arrests Groom-to-Be and 50 Others

On Saturday, agents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted raids on several clubs and lounges in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, targeting suspected internet fraudsters. Among those detained was a groom-to-be, who was celebrating his bachelor’s eve with friends at a popular Akure club.

The operation, executed in the early hours of Saturday, resulted in the arrest of over 50 individuals. Witnesses reported that EFCC operatives arrived in multiple vehicles and discharged gunshots into the air as they entered the entertainment venues.

In addition to arresting the suspects, the EFCC confiscated vehicles, laptops, smartphones, and other items. One witness recounted the chaotic scene, stating, “We were enjoying ourselves when EFCC agents suddenly stormed the nightclubs, using tear gas and physically assaulting people before making arrests. They didn’t discriminate and even deployed tear gas inside one of the clubs.”

He added, “They arrested a groom and his friends who were there for his bachelor’s eve. It was disheartening to see everyone being treated as internet fraudsters.”
