Tension as Youths revolt over security operatives trader killing in Jos

On Monday, tensions escalated in Bukuru town, Jos South local government area of Plateau State, after a trader was fatally shot and two others were injured during a law enforcement operation by a combined security task force, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Police, and Operation Rainbow. The task force was enforcing a ban on roadside trading.

 

In response to the shooting, angry youths took to the streets, blocking roads and burning tires, causing panic among the residents of the Bukuru area.

 

Bello Muhammad, the Youth Leader of the Bukuru Community, confirmed the incident, stating that it began around 2:00 pm. He reported that more than five vehicles were set on fire by the irate youths.

 

Muhammad explained, “Some traders were conducting their usual business when suddenly armed security personnel deployed by JMBD confronted them. They shot three of our young men, killing one and injuring two others.”

 

Musa Aliyu, the father of the deceased trader, Muhammad Nasiru, shared that his 30-year-old son was engaged in the cellphone business at the time of the incident. He emphasized that his son was not trading
