Bauchi: Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Stealing N120 Million from Friend’s Bank Account

Glory Samuel

A 34-year-old former student of the Federal Polytechnic in Bauchi, Glory Samuel, has been apprehended by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly committing wire fraud amounting to N120 million.

The suspect is accused of defrauding a close friend of 15 years, who is also a prominent businessman in the state, out of the significant sum.

The investigation began following a complaint filed on April 1, 2024, which reported suspicious withdrawals totaling N2,068,000 from the complainant’s company bank account.

Under the directive of Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Mohammed, the State Intelligence Department launched an immediate investigation.

Through detailed efforts, it was uncovered that the suspect had illicitly withdrawn N120 million from the complainant’s bank account over a period of time. During interrogation, according to Command PPRO SP Ahmed Wakili, Glory Samuel confessed to betraying the trust of his long-time friend and business neighbor.

Samuel revealed that a friend he had met in 2011 at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, prior to dropping out of a Computer Science course, persuaded him to make money by accessing the mobile phone of a wealthy individual.

Taking advantage of the complainant’s trust, Samuel borrowed his friend’s phone and allowed his accomplice to install financial applications such as Opay and MoneyPoint, which facilitated the transfer of funds to various bank accounts on multiple occasions.

Police personnel recovered several items from Samuel, including eight tricycles (Keke NAPEP), N35,000,000 in cash, two uncompleted buildings, sixty bags of cooking charcoal, thirty bags of fertilizer, two motorcycles, and two industrial sewing machines.

The Police have assured that the suspect will face legal charges in court.

Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Mohammed has urged the public to stay vigilant and secure their financial platforms. The Command also encourages the public to report any complaints regarding police misconduct to PPRO at 08034844393, CRU at 08036392107, or on Facebook at Bauchi State Police Command or Complaint Bauchi.
