The arrest occurred around 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Abuja. A source at the center confirmed that ZFancy was taken into custody in relation to one of his pranks.

The official said, “ZFancy, the popular prankster, was just arrested by our men a while ago.”

Some social media users have accused ZFancy of being involved in rituals. On June 16, 2024, entertainer Dami Adenuga posted a video of a woman named Kokina who alleged that ZFancy was involved in ritualistic activities while searching for her missing friend. Adenuga urged the Nigeria Police to intervene.

The police responded to the post, urging the woman to report to the nearest police station and providing emergency contact lines for further information.

When contacted, Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the arrest, stating it was related to a case involving a problematic prank.

In a subsequent development on Thursday, Adejobi released a statement on social media clarifying the arrest. The statement explained that ZFancy was apprehended following the circulation of videos on social media accusing him of serious crimes, including rape, which caused significant concern among users. ZFancy later claimed the videos were scripted attempts to regain attention after a hiatus.

The statement read, “The Nigeria Police Force, through the NPF National Cybercrime Centre, has arrested Nigerian prankster Ubani Zion Chibuike, also known as ZFancy, at an apartment in Wuye, Abuja. This arrest follows the circulation of accusatory videos on social media alleging ZFancy committed heinous crimes, including rape, causing significant apprehension among social media users. ZFancy claimed the videos were scripted and part of his effort to regain the spotlight after a break. Regardless, such actions have serious implications and cannot be taken lightly. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to maintaining public safety and ensuring accountability for actions that incite fear or disturb public peace.

“The Police warn pranksters and content creators to be law-abiding and mindful of pranks and content that could pose threats to the public and compromise national security. We urge the public to remain calm as we proceed with the necessary legal actions in this case.”
