Herdsmen Attack Benue Community: 13 Killed

In a tragic incident, suspected herdsmen have allegedly killed at least 13 individuals in an attack on a community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to information obtained by First Class Gists, the assailants not only killed residents but also burned down houses and looted properties.
A local source, who wished to remain anonymous due to fear of retribution, revealed to journalists in Makurdi: “On July 9, 2024, Fulani herdsmen attacked Olegomachi community in Agatu LGA, resulting in the death of 13 people.”
The caretaker chairman of Agatu Council, Phillip Ebenyakwu, confirmed the incident. In a phone conversation with reporters, he stated: “Yes, the attack is confirmed. It occurred yesterday evening, and I was informed that 10 people were killed.”
Ebenyakwu further detailed that the attackers were armed with sophisticated weapons, looted homes, and set fire to about seven houses, stealing various properties including livestock like goats and chickens.
“The incident has been reported to the police, and the DSS is also aware. I am making arrangements for security personnel to visit the area,” Ebenyakwu added.
However, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, stated that she had not yet received a report from Agatu regarding the attack.
