Tinubu Administration Prioritizes Intentional Policies, Says Akume

By Kuni Tyessi in Abuja

Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, emphasized the intentional nature of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in implementing policies aimed at inclusivity. Speaking at the second graduation and prize-giving ceremony of Hands and Mind Integrated Schools in Abuja, Akume highlighted several key policies as evidence of this commitment.

Akume pointed to the removal of fuel subsidies, granting autonomy to local government allocations, the introduction of a student loan scheme, and raising the minimum wage to N70,000 for organized labor as examples of the administration’s deliberate approach. Represented by his Special Adviser, Professor Bernard Babatunde, Akume stressed that these policies are designed to provide a stable foundation for Nigeria’s progress.

He stated, “The government’s focus on intentionality is evident in our recent policies such as subsidy removal and local government autonomy. Soon, elections will also be directly managed by INEC or other designated bodies. We promised educational autonomy and have delivered, along with reviewing labor wages. Without these policies, the nation risks instability. Our efforts are aimed at solidifying existing frameworks to ensure Nigeria’s forward momentum.”

Akume also praised the government’s initiatives in the education sector, including the new student loan scheme, which aims to promote equality and broaden access to education. Dr. Tanko Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, underscored the need for private sector collaboration to enhance educational access for all.
