Wike Vows to Keep FCT Off-Limits to August 1st Protesters

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the FCT will not accommodate the proposed hunger protests scheduled for August 1st.

Following a security meeting in the capital on Thursday, Wike addressed journalists, stating, “To those who want to protest on August 1st, the FCT is not available for any form of protests. We will not allow it.”

Wike explained that the date is reserved for the celebration and issuance of certificates to the Chairmen of the six Area Councils and traditional rulers.

While recognizing the right to protest, Wike emphasized that it must be conducted within legal bounds. He urged Nigerians to work together to address the country’s challenges. “We know that it is a very difficult period for the citizens, but we urge Nigerians to be patient,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Wike visited the Saburi community, urging residents to distance themselves from the hunger protests. He appealed for patience, assuring the community that the difficult times would soon pass.

The Minister also promised to build a police station in Saburi and encouraged the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, to establish a primary healthcare center in the community.
