Niger Deltans Have No Reason to Protest Against Tinubu; Minister Gives Reasons

Engineer Abubakar Momoh, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, has stated that the people of the South-South region have no justification to protest against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a briefing with State House reporters on Wednesday, Momoh emphasized that the President has launched various initiatives aimed at both advancing the region and empowering its youth. He noted that some individuals advocating for protests are not fully aware of the numerous projects currently underway in the Niger Delta. “We’ve observed that many Nigerians, especially the youth, are not fully informed about the numerous programs established to improve their circumstances,” he explained.

Momoh highlighted the substantial progress made in the Niger Delta, asserting that the recent year has seen more project completions than the previous four years combined. He cited the recent commissioning of the Okitipupa electricity project, which has connected several local governments to the national grid after being neglected for 15 years, as a prime example. Additionally, the completion of the Ogbia/Nembe road, featuring seven bridges and 25 culverts, underscores the administration’s commitment to regional development.

Regarding the potential for protests, Momoh acknowledged that while protests are not inherently wrong, they should not lead to violence or property destruction. “The freedom to protest does not extend to causing damage or chaos. I urge the youth to leverage the numerous programs available and work towards building a positive future rather than engaging in destructive actions,” he advised.
