See the Number of Followers Portable Loses, after Controversial Hunger Protest Comments
Street pop artist Habeeb Olalomi, better known as Portable, experienced a significant backlash, losing 100,000 Instagram followers just hours after making contentious remarks about ongoing protests in the country.
In a widely circulated video, Portable claimed that there were no protests occurring in Sango, Ogun State, where he resides. He explained that past demonstrations had been overlooked by the government, leading him and his community to focus on their daily routines instead.
The singer’s comments were met with strong disapproval from many fans. Within 12 hours of posting the video, Portable’s follower count dropped dramatically, as reported by a well-known blog. Fans who had previously warned of their intention to unfollow acted on their threats, and others have pledged to do the same if he continues with similar statements.
Portable had earlier made controversial comparisons between himself and billionaire Aliko Dangote, labeling protests as activities for the less affluent.
Reactions from netizens included comments like @lyonn_ade’s, who stated: “Unfollowed as well!!! Good riddance to bad rubbish!!”
