Nasarawa Police Detain 50 Protesters

The Nasarawa State Police Command has detained 50 individuals participating in a recent protest, following their involvement in attacks on police officers and disruptions to public order.Â
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests on Saturday, explaining that the detainees are being held for further questioning and investigation.
Nansel detailed that the arrests occurred during the nationwide protest on Thursday. The breakdown of arrests is as follows: 25 individuals in Lafia, 16 in Karu, six in Keffi, and three in Mararaba-Udege within the Nasarawa Local Government Areas.
The protest, which began on August 1, focuses on issues related to economic hardship and is planned to continue for 10 days, demanding improvements in governance. Additionally, President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to address the nation on Sunday, August 4, at 7:00 am.
