Best medal: Tobi Amusan aims for Olympics medal at third attempt in Paris

World 100m hurdles record holder Tobi Amusan is eager to secure an Olympic medal at her third attempt, following a strong performance in the event’s heats. At the Paris 2024 Games, Amusan clocked 12.49 seconds to win her heat, outperforming America’s Alaysha Johnson (12.61 seconds) and Jamaica’s Janeek Brown (12.84 seconds).
Amusan expressed her satisfaction with her heat performance and her anticipation for the upcoming rounds. “I felt powerful and confident today,” she told Making of Champions. “Winning my heat with this time boosts my confidence going into the semifinals.”
Reflecting on her Olympic journey, Amusan remarked, “In my first Olympics, I was quite young, and in the second, I had more experience but didn’t make the podium. This time, I believe it’s my season. I’m grateful to God for this opportunity, and my goal is to perform well in each round. I think I did a decent job today.”
Amusan noted that her approach has evolved over the years. “This year is about enjoying the experience, executing my race, and staying calm. I feel like I’m on the right path.”
As she continues her pursuit of Olympic success, Amusan will represent Team Nigeria in the semifinals on Friday, with the final scheduled for Saturday. She will face strong competitors, including reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn from Puerto Rico, Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, America’s Masai Russell, and Bahamas’ Devynne
Charlton.
