Bode George Calls on President Tinubu to Tell Nigerians the truth about Fuel Subsidy Situation

Bode George, a prominent figure in the People Democratic Party and former deputy national chairman, has urged President Bola Tinubu to provide clarity on the current status of fuel subsidies in Nigeria.

George emphasized that Nigerians have a right to know whether the Tinubu administration is still covertly subsidizing fuel costs. Speculation has arisen, with former governors Isa Yuguda and Nasir El-Rufai alleging that the government is now spending more on fuel subsidies than before.

Finance Minister Wale Edun recently disclosed that Nigeria is currently spending $600 million monthly on fuel imports. Despite this, George expressed frustration on Arise TV’s Morning Show about the government’s lack of transparency regarding fuel subsidies.

“I am deeply concerned about the confusion surrounding this issue. One day we hear that subsidies are still in place, and the next day we are told they are not. We need to know the truth,” George stated. “Transparency is our right. If we understand the situation clearly, we are more likely to support the government’s efforts. The NNPCL, owned by the federal government and thus by all Nigerians, should provide clear information about its operations. I am not an expert in this field, but I am informed enough to discern the truth and support or critique government policies accordingly.”
