See what Osinbajo Reveal That Churches Need To Do For Nigeria To Rise Again

See what Osinbajo Reveal That Churches Need To Do For Nigeria To Rise Again

Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has urged churches in the country to refocus their teachings from prosperity and wealth accumulation to emphasize peace, productivity, and community development.

Addressing attendees at the 68th Anniversary and 58th Annual Convention of The Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT) over the weekend, Osinbajo discussed the topic, “The Christian Faith in the Political Struggles: A Case Study of Nigeria.” He criticized the prevalent fixation on wealth and opulence among some religious leaders, which he believes has disconnected a significant portion of the population, especially the youth, who are looking for more meaningful and impactful messages from the church.

Osinbajo pointed out that churches have long been preoccupied with personal prosperity and material wealth, losing sight of the gospel’s true mission to foster peace, unity, and overall societal development. He stressed that if church leaders genuinely wish to see Nigeria rise again, they must return to preaching fundamental values like hard work, compassion, and community service.

He stated, “For too long, our churches have been focused on personal prosperity and material wealth, overlooking the gospel’s true mission to advance peace, unity, and societal growth. To help Nigeria realize its full potential, the church must revert to its foundational values, emphasizing hard work, compassion, and community service.”

Osinbajo cautioned that an overemphasis on rewards and benefits, especially among Christians in positions of authority, could hinder national development by corrupting people’s morals and impeding their ability to act ethically. He noted that many prosperous countries have limited natural resources, while resource-rich nations often struggle with poverty due to a lack of emphasis on hard work and productivity.

He highlighted that several successful nations in Europe and America thrived by adhering to the core principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ, combined with virtues like hard work, integrity, and protection of the vulnerable.

Osinbajo also criticized the tendency of some preachers to ignore the questionable sources of their members’ wealth, attributing it instead to miracles. He emphasized that the primary role of Christians and the church is to promote an accurate version of the gospel that has historically transformed nations.

“The nations we aspire to emulate have prospered due to the genuine preaching of Jesus Christ’s gospel and the virtues of hard work, productivity, and integrity,” he concluded. “To effectively impact our nation, the church must focus its messages on encouraging these virtues while also addressing the needs of the poor and vulnerable in our communities.”
