76 Suspects Arrested with Russian Flags in Kano Transferred to Abuja for Investigation
The Kano State Police Command has transferred 76 suspects, including one foreign national, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for a thorough investigation into charges of sedition. The arrests were made in connection with the display of Russian flags during recent protests, according to News360 Nigeria.
Kano State Police Commissioner Salman Garba provided an update on Monday, explaining that the suspects were detained amid ongoing nationwide protests against hunger. These actions were part of broader efforts to maintain order during the demonstrations.
“This press conference is intended to update the public on the violent incidents that led to the destruction and looting of government and public properties in Kano State,” Garba said. “These incidents were triggered by individuals who exploited the nationwide protests to incite unrest. Additionally, I will highlight the progress our Command has made in crime prevention and control from August 1 to the present.”
Garba reported that the police have arrested a total of 873 suspects and recovered numerous items. Of these, 600 individuals have been prosecuted for various offenses including criminal conspiracy, incitement, rioting, theft, mischief, and arson.
He also noted that 150 suspects were arrested and prosecuted for curfew violations imposed by the Kano State Government. Six individuals connected to the destruction and arson at the Kano Printing Press are currently under investigation.
Furthermore, 41 suspects were apprehended for serious crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and car theft. The police have also recovered two AK-47 rifles and other substantial items looted from various locations, including the Audu Bako Secretariat, NCC Office, High Court Complexes, Kano Printing Press, and local supermarkets.
Garba highlighted the Command’s continued efforts in safeguarding residents despite the challenges posed by the protests. The police have achieved notable successes through proactive measures and community engagement, including the arrest of two suspected kidnappers, five suspected armed robbers, and eight suspected car thieves. Additional arrests include two human traffickers, 23 local gang members, one drug dealer, and 13 trafficking victims.

ongoing crisis.
