Protesters Invade Kano Court, Seize Documents Related to Ganduje Corruption Trial

The Kano State government has reported that during a recent nationwide protest, a group of protesters invaded the State High Court and made off with key documents related to the corruption trial of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. The trial involves charges against Ganduje, his wife Hafsat, his son Umar Abdullahi, and five others, all accused of misappropriation and diversion of funds during Ganduje’s eight-year tenure as governor.

The court, which was one of the properties vandalized and looted by hoodlums during the #EndBadGovernance protest, suffered extensive damage. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf visited the site on Wednesday to assess the situation. He was accompanied by Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Barrister Haruna Isah Dederi, Chief Registrar of the High Court Alhaji Abdullahi Ado Bayero, and several judges.

Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, issued a statement in which Governor Yusuf described the vandalism as a deliberate act orchestrated by enemies of the state. He suggested that hired miscreants were sent to sabotage the corruption case against Ganduje, who is also the acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The statement further detailed the extent of the damage, noting that nearly all units of the High Court were destroyed, including the office of the state’s Chief Judge. The total loss was estimated to exceed N1 billion, with the theft of office equipment, the destruction of offices, and the burning of cars and other critical materials essential for justice.

Governor Yusuf called on the youth of Kano State to resist being manipulated by detractors into engaging in violence. Instead, he encouraged them to focus on acquiring skills for a better future, while
