Breaking news: Everton transfer update on Kieran Trippier shared as two arrivals…

Alan Myers said “anything is possible” when discussing the possibility of Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier signing for Everton this summer.

The Sky Sports journalist reported on his X account [22 August] that the Blues are negotiating with Newcastle United for a possible loan move for their vice-captain.

Trippier, recently described as “outstanding” by former England manager Gareth Southgate [Chronicle Live], could move to Goodison Park this summer.

Myers said a deal for Trippier cannot be ruled out and also revealed in a separate post that the Toffees could look to bring in two more signings before the 30 August deadline.

He said: “I’d guess probably two, but depends on a number of things.”

Will Everton sign Kieran Trippier?

While the news has come as a shock, it represents the perfect opportunity that Everton have been waiting for to improve their options at full-back.

With that in mind, Trippier would be joining 36-year-old Seamus Coleman and 39-year-old Ashley Young as one of the oldest players in the Blues side.

He is a significant upgrade on the current options at Goodison Park with a wealth of Premier League and Champions League experience to offer. It would be a shrewd deal for Sean Dyche to provide a stop-gap option to a problem position.

Once the issue of his wages is dealt with, the deal would be of relative cost to Everton, and with only eight days left of the transfer window left an opportunity such as this is unlikely to arise again.

Trippier can also act as a mentor to both Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko, play in both full-back positions, and is a set-piece specialist, a skill that has been non-existent at the Blues for some time.

This is a low-risk, high-reward deal that can only have an upside. Dyche needs to wrap up this deal fast to fend off interest from West Ham United, Atalanta and Galatasaray.
