Suleiman Abubakar, Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, has sharply criticized Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for allegedly threatening to instigate political unrest in states where governors are perceived to be interfering in the political situation in Rivers State.

In a statement released to the press, Abubakar, who is also the former chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Speakers Forum, condemned Wike’s comments as ‘reckless’ and ‘inappropriate’ for someone in a leadership position. He stressed that such rhetoric jeopardizes not only the unity of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but also the stability of the nation as a whole.

Abubakar urged the PDP leadership and national security agencies to take prompt action against Wike’s actions. He emphasized that the PDP is founded on democratic values, mutual respect, and the rule of law, and should not be used as a personal tool by any individual, regardless of their achievements or status.

“Mr. Wike’s attempt to wield his influence as a means of intimidation against other states is a misuse of power and a direct breach of our party’s core values,” Abubakar stated. He expressed his refusal to remain silent in the face of Wike’s threats, labeling the suggestion that Bauchi State might face political chaos as unacceptable.

He also criticized Wike’s continuous public outbursts as damaging to the PDP and a betrayal of the trust placed in him by both the people of Rivers State and the broader Nigerian populace. Abubakar called on the National Security Adviser and media to hold those making inflammatory statements accountable, asserting that one individual’s ego and quest for power should not endanger national peace and unity.

Reaffirming Bauchi State’s commitment to justice, peace, and the rule of law, Abubakar stated that any attempts to disrupt the state’s peace would be met with strict legal consequences.
