See the Numbers of People Dead and Communities Hit by Floods in Kano

The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has reported that 49 people have died and 226 communities have been impacted by floods and windstorms across 27 Local Government Areas in the state since January 2024.
Alhaji Isyaku Abdullahi-Kubarachi, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, provided this update during a press briefing in Kano on Wednesday. He noted that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) had previously warned of a high risk of flooding in 14 local government areas.
The affected areas include Tudun Wada, Gwale, Wudil, Danbatta, Ajingi, Dala, Gwarzo, Madobi, Bichi, Kano Municipal, Karaye, Tarauni, Minjibir, Bebeji, Rogo, Shanono, Kabo, Garin Malam, and Ungogo, as well as Kumbotso, Nasarawa, Kura, Dawakin Kudu, Dawakin Tofa, Gezawa, Rogo, and Bagwai.
SEMA reported significant damage, with 6,583 homes destroyed and 38,814 people affected. Additionally, 8,289 farmlands, covering approximately 36,265 hectares, were ruined. The floods also displaced 1,414 people and injured 139.
