Senators Contribute N74 Million to Support Borno Flood Victims
On Tuesday, senators donated N74 million to assist victims of the severe flooding that struck Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Jibrin Barau, made the announcement on behalf of Senate President Sen. Godswill Akpabio during a visit to Maiduguri. This information was shared by Ismail Mudashir, the Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, in a statement from Abuja.
Sen. Barau indicated that each of the 108 senators would contribute N500,000, amounting to N54 million. Additionally, he personally pledged N10 million. The Northern Senators Forum also contributed N10 million, bringing the total to N74 million.
Upon arrival, the senators were welcomed by Borno Governor Babagana Zulum. Barau expressed condolences to both the government and citizens of Borno regarding the recent disaster.
“We are here to extend our sympathies and support following the unfortunate flooding in this beautiful state last week,” he stated. “What affects Borno impacts the entire nation.”
He further explained that while the Senate President had visited the day before to represent the Senate, it is customary for other senators to follow up with their own expressions of sympathy.
“May Allah grant swift recovery to those injured and help those who lost their possessions to regain them soon.”
