South Korean Man Confesses to Murdering Girlfriend and Hiding Her Body in Cement
A man in South Korea has admitted to killing his girlfriend and concealing her body in cement, 16 years after she was reported missing.Â
The suspect, in his 50s, revealed to local authorities that he struck the woman with a blunt object during a dispute in his apartment located in Geoje. He then placed her body in a suitcase and buried it under bricks and cement on his balcony, where it remained undiscovered until last month when a maintenance worker found it while drilling.
The remains were identified as those of the missing woman through fingerprint analysis. An autopsy determined that she died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Identified as Mr. A by police, the suspect was not residing in the apartment when the body was found but was quickly apprehended. He stated that he had lived with the woman for about five years before the fatal argument in October 2008.
After the incident, he buried the suitcase containing her body on a third-floor balcony, accessible only from one of the bedrooms. Remarkably, he continued to live in the apartment for another eight years until his arrest on drug charges in 2016. Since then, the apartment had remained vacant, used as storage by the landlord.
Authorities noted that the woman, who was in her 30s at the time of her death, was not reported missing by her family until three years later. They had lost contact with her and were told she had left the city after breaking up with Mr. A.
The mystery remained unsolved until this year when the building owner initiated waterproofing work, leading to the grim discovery. Police are continuing their investigation and plan to charge the man with murder.
