In Katsina State, bandits launched two separate attacks on vigilante groups on Friday evening, resulting in the deaths of nine security personnel and the theft of six pump-action guns.
A reliable security source reported that the first attack occurred when armed bandits ambushed members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and local vigilantes who were safeguarding farmers during the harvest at Unguwar Kafa along the Yankara-Faskari Road in Faskari Local Government Area.
Upon learning of the ambush, a joint team of police and military forces from nearby Unguwar Boka was deployed to assist. A fierce firefight ensued, ultimately forcing the bandits to retreat into a nearby forest. Tragically, six officers lost their lives in this encounter, including four from the Community Watch Corps and two vigilante members.
In a separate incident that same evening, another group of bandits attacked vigilantes traveling from Gwarjo to Yalwa in Matazu Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of three vigilantes, with one sustaining serious injuries. Jamilu Aliyu, the Secretary of the Matazu vigilante group, confirmed this incident to local media.
Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased security operatives, praising their bravery and dedication.
“These courageous individuals are true heroes of our state. Their sacrifices for Katsina will always be remembered. We stand by their families during this challenging time and assure them of our continued support,” Governor Radda stated through his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
The Governor also indicated that the area is under close monitoring and that investigations are ongoing to bring the attackers to justice. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the security and welfare of all residents in Katsina State, urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in main
