First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Contributes ₦1 Billion for OAU Landscaping

On Thursday, First Lady and Senator Oluremi Tinubu reflected on her time as a student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, noting the campus’s once-beautiful natural landscape.

At the inauguration of the 2.7km Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way, along with a pavilion and monument donated by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Mrs. Tinubu expressed her concern over the loss of greenery on campus.

According to News360 Nigeria, she called for urgent efforts to restore the university’s environmental beauty, which she fondly remembered from her student days. She attributed the decline of the campus’s landscape to inadequate maintenance and announced a generous donation of ₦1 billion for the restoration of OAU’s horticultural areas.

“I will donate ₦1 billion for the restoration of the OAU landscape. This campus used to be beautiful, and Ife is in need of help. We must bring back its former glory,” she stated.

While praising the projects named in her honor by the royal father, the First Lady noted that the event was part of the celebrations marking Oba Ogunwusi’s 50th birthday.

Oba Ogunwusi acknowledged Mrs. Tinubu’s significant contributions to humanity, stating that the projects reflect her leadership and commitment to education, women’s empowerment, and national unity.

He remarked, “A golden statue has been erected to honor her virtuous character and showcase the strength of a teacher, mother, and wife at the heart of OAU. Additionally, a state-of-the-art hostel has been constructed, alongside a 2.7km road equipped with solar-powered street lamps, providing much-needed light for students during recent power outages.”

The road will be officially named ‘Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way,’ symbolizing the many opportunities she has created for youth, women, and marginalized groups. The hostel and pavilion named after her represent her dedication to fostering learning and empowerment.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by Deputy Kola Adewusi, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure throughout the state.

The event celebrated Oba Ogunwusi’s milestone birthday, with Mrs. Tinubu expressing her appreciation for the honor given to her by the Ooni.
