Governor Suspends Aide Over Misleading ₦70,000 Minimum Wage Announcement

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has suspended his Special Adviser on Salary and Pensions, Bashir Ado, following a controversial statement regarding a ₦70,000 minimum wage. Reports emerged in various media outlets claiming that the governor had approved this new wage for state workers.

However, in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, the governor clarified that the committee established to recommend an appropriate wage has not yet completed its work.

“This situation is both embarrassing and premature, as the committee, led by the Head of the State Civil Service, is still finalizing its report,” the statement noted.

Due to this incident, Governor Namadi has ordered Ado’s immediate suspension while a committee, chaired by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Bello Abdulkadir, investigates the matter.

Ibrahim stated that this committee has been given two weeks to determine the source and content of the misleading statement, as well as the motives behind it. The committee will include key officials such as the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad; and the Permanent Secretary of Establishment and Service Matters, Muhammad Hahaha.
