Asari Dokubo Alleges Military Involvement in Oil Bunkering, Claims Government Fears Coup
Former militant leader Asari Dokubo has reiterated his assertion that members of the Nigerian Army are complicit in oil bunkering activities in the Niger Delta.
Speaking to the press, Dokubo stated that President Bola Tinubu instructed him to bring these serious allegations to public attention. In previous remarks from June, he claimed that a significant portion of oil theft in the Niger Delta can be traced back to the Nigerian Army and Navy.
After a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Dokubo emphasized, “The military plays a central role in oil theft, and it’s crucial for the Nigerian public to understand that 99 percent of these activities are linked to the military, particularly the Army and the Navy.”
He also clarified that ethnic groups in the region are not responsible for the bunkering issues. In a recent video, Dokubo stated, “The president asked me to speak out, so I won’t keep quiet. If I know the root causes of bunkering, I must address it.”
He added, “It’s not the Ijaw, Ikwerre, or Ogoni youths involved in this; it’s military personnel who fund the operations, taking their cut while offering the local youths mere scraps.
“Everyone is aware of this situation, but there’s a reluctance to speak out due to fearsof a coup.”
