Lagos Shuts Down Residential Building Due to Lack of Toilet Facilities

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has closed a residential property on Adesosu Street in the Otubu area of Agege for not having adequate toilet facilities.
Hon. Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s commissioner for environment and water resources, announced this via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account. He emphasized the state’s dedication to ensuring sustainable sanitation and public health, stating, “The LSWMO has sealed a residential property on Adedosu Street, Otubu, Agege.”
The action was taken after community members raised concerns about the building, which contains over ten rooms but lacks proper toilets, relying instead on dilapidated pit latrines filled with exposed waste.
Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, the General Manager who led the compliance team, highlighted the importance of preventing another cholera outbreak in Lagos. The commissioner urged residents to adopt better sanitation and hygiene practices for the well-being of the community.
In a separate update, Hon. Wahab reported that in response to security concerns near Obanikoro Bus Stop, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of eight individuals with suspected illegal substances, including Indian hemp. He noted that these individuals would face legal action in accordance with state laws.
