NASU and SSANU Launch Nationwide Strike: Unpaid Salaries Spark Major Action!

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) representing the non-teaching staff unions in universities has announced an indefinite nationwide strike starting today. This decision affects the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
The strike aims to address the withholding of four months’ salaries linked to an earlier industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) during the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a circular sent to all branch chairpersons of NASU and SSANU, titled “Latest Development Regarding Withheld Salaries,” the JAC noted that the strike, originally scheduled for October 23, was postponed to accommodate a Trade Group Council meeting of NASU branches.
The circular, co-signed by Prince Peters Adeyemi, General Secretary of NASU, and Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, President of SSANU, emphasized that the timing adjustment was made for better coordination between the two unions.
