Wike Champions Local Government Autonomy, Stresses Accountability
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), expressed his strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s push for local government autonomy during an event on Monday. He made the remarks while inaugurating the upgrading of War College/Army Checkpoint Road and related infrastructure in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
Wike emphasized that he stands firmly behind the initiative and encouraged residents to hold their local leaders accountable. He praised the collaborative relationship he and Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, have developed with the chairpersons of the six area councils in the territory.
Reflecting on his tenure, Wike stated, “Since we took office as ministers, we have worked together closely. I challenge anyone to question this; I don’t even know how much funding they receive. It has never been a concern for me, nor am I interested.”
He clarified that he focuses on his own allocation, asserting his commitment to supporting the President’s agenda without apology.
