Fleeing Suspected Thief Struck by Speeding Vehicle in Lagos, Left Unconscious on Roadside

A man suspected of theft was found unconscious after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State on Friday morning.

According to FIRST CLASS GISTS, the unidentified male suspect had reportedly broken into an apartment in the community early on Friday. Residents who witnessed the break-in began chasing him as he attempted to flee the scene. In a desperate bid to escape, the suspect ran onto the expressway, where he was hit by a speeding vehicle.

Our correspondent, who visited the scene on Sunday, observed the man lying on the roadside near the Abule Egba bridge. His face was swollen, and he had visible bruises, yet he was still breathing, with his legs moving at intervals.

Ganiyat Enitan, a local shopkeeper, said she saw the man lying in the same spot since Friday. “We found him there on Friday morning. He was trying to scale a fence at midnight when people noticed him. They chased him, but while running, he was hit by a vehicle on the expressway,” she explained.

Another nearby business owner, who wished to remain anonymous, mentioned that the man had initially been lying on the bridge walkway before rolling into the road. “He was moved to the main road later, and then LASTMA officials placed a tire behind him to warn drivers,” he said.

Saheed Adekunle, a transport worker, expressed concern that the man was in imminent danger of being further injured if he wasn’t removed from the area soon. “The tire placed there isn’t enough to protect him. Heavy trucks often stray off the walkway, so there’s a real risk he could be crushed if not taken away quickly,” Adekunle said.

Despite several attempts to contact the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, for comment, no response was received by the time this report was filed.
