Nigeria Joins Global Effort to Feed 10 Million More Children by 2030
The Nigerian government has committed to expanding its school meal program, with plans to reach an additional 10 million children by 2030. This pledge was made at a global summit in Rio de Janeiro, where leaders from various countries, multilateral development organizations, UN agencies, and philanthropic groups came together to tackle childhood hunger and improve educational access.
The effort, led by the School Meals Coalition—a collective of over 100 governments and 130 partners—aims to extend nutritious meals to 150 million children in low- and middle-income countries, more than doubling the current number. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to ensure that every child in school receives at least one healthy meal per day, supported by coordinated efforts on financing, logistics, and policy development both at national and international levels.
