Tragic Early Morning Blaze Claims Lives of Customs Officer, Wife, and Four Children in Osun

A devastating fire early on Monday morning claimed the lives of six family members in Ede, Osun State. The victims included Tijani Kabiru, a Customs officer with the Oyo/Osun Command, his wife, and their four children.
The fire is believed to have started around 2 a.m. at the family’s home in the Olowopoku area of Ede. According to reports, Kabiru, who was in his late 40s, was asleep with his wife and five children when the blaze broke out, apparently due to an electrical fault in the solar panel system installed on the roof of the house.
The fire reportedly began at 2:09 a.m., with an electrical spark from the solar panel igniting the flames. One of the children, a 13-year-old, was reading when the fire started. Upon realizing the danger, the child rushed to his father’s room and found the family members overcome by smoke. He fled the house to seek help, but due to the security measures—such as electric barbed wires and strong doors—residents were unable to gain access to the home in time.
The fire was reported to the Osun State Fire Service at 3:10 a.m., but tragically, by the time firefighters arrived, Kabiru, his wife, and four children had perished in the flames.
Dekunle Ibraheem, the Public Relations Officer for the Osun State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, saying, “It is true that Tijani, his wife, and four children lost their lives in the fire. Only one of the children managed to escape. The bodies were handed over to the A Division of the Nigeria Police Force.”
The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning.
