Obi Mourns the Death of Rev. Fr. Tobias: “How Many Lives Must Be Lost Before We Confront Insecurity?”

I woke up this morning to the devastating news of the tragic loss of Rev. Fr. Tobias Okonkwo, the Manager of the College of Nursing Sciences at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala.

Peter Obi

Fr. Tobias was senselessly gunned down by yet-to-be-identified assailants last night in Ihiala, Anambra. This senseless killing of our productive citizens by ruthless criminals is beyond heartbreaking.

Across the country, the blood of countless brothers and sisters whose lives have been abruptly taken by insecurity continues to cry out. How many more lives must be sacrificed before we stand up and take decisive action to end this persistent threat to our future as a nation?

Having closely collaborated with and visited the College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala, I deeply feel the pain this tragedy brings to the entire college community.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to Fr. Tobias’ immediate family, the institution’s leadership, staff, and students. May God grant him eternal peace and give us the strength to endure this immense loss.

We pray for healing for our wounded nation. -PO
