El-Rufai Mocks APC Leadership, Claims He Should Have Been Expelled

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has humorously stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) should have expelled him instead of him leaving the party on his own terms.
El-Rufai, who recently switched from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said that his departure was due to the growing disconnection between his personal principles and the APC’s current path. He criticized the party’s leadership, claiming it had deviated from the progressive values that originally shaped its foundation.
In a recent interview with BBC Hausa, El-Rufai expressed that had the APC expelled him, he would not have had to explain his exit. He quipped, “It would have been better for me if they had expelled me. I’ve always said that the APC would be my final political party.”
He continued, “If they had expelled me, they would have saved me the trouble of explaining why I left. The reality is that I didn’t leave the APC; rather, the APC left me. So, what did I do next? I left their party and told them to eat it if it were food.”
