See the Numbers of Bandits Security Forces Killed in Pre-Dawn Raid Near Kuchi, Niger State

At least 45 suspected bandits were killed early Monday when operatives of the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services (DSS) launched a joint raid near Kuchi, in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.

Sources familiar with the operation confirmed that the raid was based on solid intelligence, indicating that the attackers—believed to be part of a network loyal to notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide—were preparing to strike villages in the area.

The fighters, said to number over 100, had reportedly moved from hideouts in Zamfara’s Bilbis Forest and parts of Kaduna State. Security teams moved in under the cover of darkness and intercepted them on the outskirts of Kuchi before they could carry out their mission.

A fierce gunfight broke out, leaving dozens of the gunmen dead. Others fled into the bush, many with gunshot wounds. Troops recovered weapons, ammunition, and several motorcycles used by the attackers.

Five DSS personnel were wounded during the operation and are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

This raid is the latest in a series of offensives aimed at dismantling Dogo Gide’s armed network, which has been linked to attacks across the North Central and North West.

Security officials say they plan to keep up the pressure. “It’s a tough terrain, but we’re making progress. We’re not backing down,” said one source involved in the operation.
