Six Nigerian Law School Students Kidnapped on Taraba-Benue Highway

Suspected gunmen have abducted six students from the Nigerian Law School while they were en route from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Yola, Adamawa State. The abduction reportedly occurred late on Saturday, July 26, along the Wukari-Benue corridor, an area long plagued by insecurity and violent attacks on travelers.

The victims were heading to the Nigerian Law School’s Yola campus to resume classes after their court externship, with the school scheduled to reopen on Monday, July 28.

A fellow student at the Yola campus, Damilare Adenola, confirmed the incident during a phone conversation with News360 Nigeria. He identified the abducted individuals as Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David.

A student leader at the Yola campus, who asked to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the case, stated that law enforcement authorities have been informed. “We’ve contacted the Adamawa State Police Command and are awaiting further updates,” the student said, adding that no definitive information had been received at the time.

Yahaya Suleiman, spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, acknowledged awareness of the incident but clarified that the kidnapping occurred outside Adamawa’s jurisdiction. “This incident did not take place within our state borders. You should reach out to the Benue State Police Command for more accurate information,” he advised.

Suleiman also confirmed ongoing coordination between the Adamawa and Benue police commands, emphasizing their commitment to the students’ safe return. “We are working closely with other security agencies to ensure the safety of those traveling into Adamawa,” he stated.

Attempts to contact Anene Catherine, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, were unsuccessful as of the time of reporting.
