TRAGIC NEWS FROM GUMA: ANOTHER DEADLY ATTACK BY ARMED FULANI MILITIA, TWO BROTHERS MURDERED

Bandits
In a devastating incident this evening, Tuesday, August 5th, 2025, two brothers—Mr. Shaapela and Tersee, sons of Mbatsuav—were mercilessly killed by armed Fulani militants at Igyungu Amua, situated along the Ukpiam–Umenger road in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.
Eyewitnesses reveal that the brothers were finishing up their work nearby, shortly after a security checkpoint that had been set up to prevent attacks was withdrawn. Tragically, moments later, the militants launched a surprise assault, gunning down the brothers as they wrapped up their day.
A distress call brought the security forces back swiftly, but sadly, they arrived too late to save the two, discovering their bodies in a pool of blood.
This brutal attack comes barely three days after the same group assaulted Mr. Paul Ortsa, who survived but sustained serious injuries, and only one day after another young farmer, Mr. Kenneth, was killed on the same road on Monday, August 4th.
The Ukpiam–Umenger road—the vital connection between Utyondu and Daudu and the heart of Benue State—has tragically turned into a dangerous zone where innocent lives are constantly at risk.
The communities of Utyondu, Guma, and all of Benue State deserve safety and protection. It is unacceptable for our people to continue losing their lives in such cruel and senseless violence.
We call on the government to break its silence, take decisive action, and safeguard the lives of those in Utyondu, Guma, and across Benue State.
