First Lady Remi Tinubu Declares End to The Era Of Calling Nigeria “The Most Corrupt Country” Is Over

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed confidence that the era of labeling Nigeria as the “most corrupt country” is now behind us.

During her recent visit to Gombe State, where she inaugurated several healthcare facilities including the Federal Medical Centre in Kumo, Mrs. Tinubu urged Nigerians to stop speaking negatively about their country. She emphasized that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, the international community is beginning to view Nigeria in a more positive light.

“You no longer hear people calling Nigeria the most corrupt nation—that narrative is changing,” she said. “When I travel abroad now and people find out I’m Nigerian, they show real interest. Nigeria is becoming a country to watch.”

While paying a courtesy visit to the Emir of Akko, Mrs. Tinubu also encouraged citizens to embrace national pride and recognize the beauty and potential within the country. She described the Gombe landscape as stunning, even likening it to parts of the English countryside.

Her message of patriotism was closely tied to the administration’s focus on reforming sectors like education, security, and local development. She also stressed the important role that traditional and religious leaders play in guiding public attitudes and shaping a stronger national identity.

“At 65, I pray for a long life,” she added. “I’m working tirelessly so that when my husband leaves office, I can still move freely and safely. That’s what motivates me.”

The First Lady concluded by calling on Nigerians to remain optimistic, united, and supportive of efforts aimed at rebuilding the nation’s reputation and securing a brighter future.
