Tinubu Deserves Re-election After Strong Performance — Former Abia Rep
A former member of the House of Representatives from Abia State has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s performance in office justifies calls for his re-election, citing what he described as bold leadership and early signs of economic and institutional reform.
Speaking during a public affairs discussion, the ex-lawmaker noted that while the administration inherited deep structural challenges, Tinubu has shown political will by taking decisions previous governments avoided. According to him, leadership is not measured by popularity alone but by the courage to confront long-standing problems, even when the solutions are difficult.
He pointed to reforms in fiscal management, infrastructure planning, and governance coordination as evidence that the president is laying a foundation for long-term growth. In his view, policies aimed at restructuring revenue streams and improving state-level economic participation signal a shift toward sustainability rather than short-term fixes.
The former Abia representative acknowledged that many Nigerians are experiencing economic pressure, but argued that such transitions often accompany major reforms. He stressed that judging the administration solely on short-term discomfort would ignore the broader objectives of stabilizing the economy and restoring investor confidence.
“Meaningful change is rarely painless,” he said, adding that Tinubu’s approach reflects a willingness to address systemic weaknesses rather than postpone them for political convenience. He urged citizens to assess the administration’s direction and intent, not just immediate outcomes.
He also highlighted renewed engagement with regional governments and private sector stakeholders, saying this collaborative style could strengthen national development if given time to mature. According to him, consistency in leadership would help ensure that ongoing reforms are fully implemented and refined.
On governance, the former lawmaker praised what he described as improved policy coordination across key ministries and agencies. He argued that continuity would prevent disruption of initiatives already underway, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and revenue administration.
While emphasizing that no government is beyond criticism, he called for constructive evaluation rather than blanket condemnation. Democratic accountability, he said, should balance scrutiny with fairness, especially when an administration is attempting to correct entrenched issues.
The ex-Abia rep concluded that re-electing Tinubu would allow Nigerians to fully measure the impact of the reforms being introduced. In his words, leadership should be judged by its vision and resolve, and on that basis, he believes the president deserves another term to consolidate his efforts.
His remarks add to a growing public debate over the direction of the country and the standards by which elected leaders should be assessed as the next election cycle gradually comes into focus.
