A Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator, identified as 38-year-old Raphael Eletanye, has been killed in a suspected armed robbery incident in Benin City, Edo State.
PoS Operator Shot Dead in Late-Night Robbery Attack in Edo

The attack occurred on January 3 at about 9:50 p.m. along Murtala Muhammed Way, close to Upper Uwa Junction, where the victim was running his PoS business. According to an eyewitness account, the assailants arrived at the location in an unregistered white minibus, confronted the operator, and fled shortly after the attack.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Edo State Police Command said the victim later died from the injuries he sustained. The Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, explained that the command received a distress call reporting a robbery involving the PoS operator.
She stated that officers from the Esigie Division were immediately deployed to the scene. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead. Preliminary findings revealed that he was shot in the thigh, after which the attackers escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident, with efforts ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible.

She added that the police have intensified security operations across the state in collaboration with other security agencies, noting that the Edo State Government has continued to support security efforts by providing patrol vehicles and other essential equipment to enhance public safety.
