Wike Applauds Tinubu, Umahi as Bodo–Bonny Road Reaches Historic Completion

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, following the successful completion of the long-awaited Bodo–Bonny Road in Rivers State, describing the project as a landmark achievement in Nigeria’s infrastructure development.
Wike noted that the completion of the road represents a significant breakthrough for the Niger Delta region, which has for decades struggled with limited access due to its difficult terrain and waterlogged environment. He praised the Federal Government for demonstrating strong political will by delivering a project many had considered impossible.
According to Wike, President Tinubu’s commitment to continuity in governance played a critical role in ensuring the project’s completion. He emphasized that sustaining major infrastructure projects across different administrations is vital for national growth and public confidence.
The former Rivers State governor also lauded Works Minister Dave Umahi for his technical expertise and hands-on supervision, stating that his leadership ensured the project met engineering standards despite complex environmental challenges. Wike described Umahi’s approach as a clear demonstration of professionalism and dedication to national service.
The Bodo–Bonny Road, which includes multiple bridges and spans difficult coastal terrain, is expected to significantly boost economic activities in the area. The road will enhance access to Bonny Island, home to major oil and gas facilities, while also improving mobility for local communities, traders, and commuters.
Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the road will stimulate investment, create jobs, and improve the overall quality of life in the region. For many communities, the project marks the end of decades of isolation and reliance on water transport.
Wike concluded by urging sustained collaboration between federal and state authorities to ensure that infrastructure projects continue to address the real needs of Nigerians. He described the Bodo–Bonny Road as a symbol of what can be achieved when leadership, vision, and comm
itment align.
