APC Governors Gather in Lagos for High-Stakes Talks on National Direction

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are set to meet in Lagos today under the auspices of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) for what party insiders describe as a pivotal strategy session.
The meeting, scheduled to hold at Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, is being hosted by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and is expected to attract all 31 APC governors across the federation. According to The Nation, the gathering comes at a time when the ruling party continues to consolidate its influence nationwide.
The timing of the meeting is also significant, coinciding with President Bola Tinubu’s stay in Lagos for the Eid-el-Fitr holiday, ahead of his return to Abuja. Political observers say his presence adds weight to the deliberations, even as discussions are expected to focus on aligning state policies with federal priorities.
With control of 31 out of Nigeria’s 36 states, the APC currently commands a strong political advantage, bolstered by recent defections from opposition parties. Daily Times reports that this growing dominance has heightened expectations for coordinated governance and policy direction across all levels of government.
Sources familiar with the agenda indicate that the governors will review key national issues, including economic management, security coordination, and implementation of federal programmes at the state level.
The forum last convened in Lagos in December 2025, where members assessed the country’s security landscape and expressed optimism about Nigeria’s trajectory. At the time, the governors commended the administration’s efforts in strengthening collaboration among security agencies and local stakeholders, according to The Guardian Nigeria.
Chaired by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, the PGF is expected to issue a communiqué at the end of the meeting outlining its resolutions and policy direction moving forward.
Analysts say the outcome of the Lagos meeting could shape the APC’s governance strategy in the months ahead, particularly as political momentum gradually builds toward the 2027 general elections.
