Tinubu Condemns Plateau and Kaduna Attacks, Calls for Urgent Action Against Violence

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the recent deadly attacks in Plateau and Kaduna States, describing them as a direct affront to the values Nigeria stands for. According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president labelled the gunmen’s actions in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, and Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area, as “barbaric and cowardly” according to Premium Times.

President Tinubu stressed that such assaults on defenseless citizens are not only heinous but risk igniting cycles of reprisal and bloodshed. “Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens, as done in Jos and Kahir village, is a heartless coward,” the statement read.

In response to the attacks, Tinubu has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent the spread of misinformation that could inflame tensions. He also urged media outlets to exercise caution, warning against framing the violence as religiously motivated, a move that could exacerbate divisions according to the Vanguard.

The president commended the swift response of state governments, acknowledging Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his containment efforts in Jos and Kaduna Governor Uba Sani for supporting rescue operations. He also highlighted the safe return of two of the abducted victims in Kaduna.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equipping security agencies with more advanced tools for real-time tracking and neutralization of criminal elements. He called on communities to cooperate with evacuation, relocation, and safety measures, and urged the immediate rescue of remaining abductees in Kahir village.

“Our government is currently acquiring more sophisticated equipment to enable our security agencies to track and smash criminals, in real time, wherever they are,” the president said, according to The Nation.

The attacks, which have left multiple fatalities and injuries, underscore ongoing security challenges in Nigeria. Analysts note that coordinated action between federal and state authorities, coupled with intelligence-driven operations, remains vital to preventing further tragedies.
