Group Urges APC Leaders to Protect Progressive Ideals, Reward Longstanding Members*
A concerned group of party members today called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to uphold its founding progressive ideology by prioritizing long-serving members in candidate selection and resisting the wholesale allocation of the senatorial ticket to newcomers of less than 8months driven by personal interest.
In a statement delivered by the group’s chairman Hon Folarin Ekundairo, members warned that handing the entire senatorial ticket to recent entrants would undermine the party’s core values, set a harmful precedent, and demoralize those who have labored for the APC since its inception. “What will be the gain of those who have been in the party for long?” the chairman asked, stressing that material inducements and private interests should not determine the party’s future.
The group appealed to party leaders to balance renewal with loyalty, arguing that experience and demonstrated commitment are essential to preserving the APC’s progressive mission. They urged decision-makers to recognize and reward those who have paid their dues, invested time and resources, and shown consistent dedication to the party’s goals rather than sidelining them in favor of opportunistic newcomers.
“The party’s strength lies in its principles and the people who have built it. Rewarding long-serving members is not about exclusion it is about fairness, continuity, and protecting the progress we have achieved,” said the group chairman. The statement emphasized that fair consideration for founding and early members will maintain morale, encourage continued activism, and safeguard the party’s identity ahead of upcoming elections.
The group called for transparent, merit-based selection processes that reflect both competence and loyalty. They recommended establishing clear criteria that give weight to years of service, contributions to party structures, and grassroots engagement. The group also asked that APC leadership engage in open dialogue with stakeholders to avoid perceptions of favoritism and to ensure decisions reflect collective interests rather than narrow ambitions.
As the party prepares for the next electoral cycle, the group urged a balanced approach: integrate fresh talent where it strengthens the ticket but do not allow short-term incentives to erase the legacy and sacrifice of long-standing members. The group warned that failure to do so could alienate core supporters, weaken party cohesion, and damage the APC’s reputation as a progressive force committed to principled governance.
The group emphasized Even when prominent figures such as Hon Sanya Ominrin, Hon Oluwole Oke, Hon Bimbo Ajilesoro, and Senator Fadahunsi were active within the PDP, The APC successfully secured victory in Osun East with a margin of 2,900 votes during the 2022 Governorship Elections. Additionally, we achieved notable wins in Ilesa East and Atakumosa East.
Furthermore, Hon Famurewa’s decisive victory over Hon Sanya Ominrin in his local government exemplifies our growing influence and strategic effectiveness.
In recognition of these accomplishments and your valuable contributions it is imperative to ensure that we don’t trade our members for the new bees
Coalition for Concerned Progressive Members (CCPM)
The group is a coalition of APC members and supporters who have been active within the party since its early days. They are committed to preserving the party’s progressive agenda by promoting fairness in candidate selection and ensuring that loyalty and service remain key considerations in political appointments and tickets sharing.
